We at Waterloo Flowers are very aware about environmental issues. After all we are in the Green Industry. Use of pesticides and herbicides have been banned from public use but can still be used by greenhouse operations and other Agriculture based operations.
That said, Waterloo Flowers has made a committment to reduce the use of chemical pesticides and herbicides wherever possible. We have instituted a biological based pest control program and only use chemicals if and when absolutely necessary.
Our retail operation only stocks and sells biological fertilizers.
Water management has also been addressed by upgrading some of our watering systems to be more efficient state of the art systems. These systems reduce overall use of water as well as reduce waste water and fertilizer that flow back into the environment.
Further to that, we have made a commitment to reduce the number of plastic pots we use. For 2010, we have replaced the use of 300,000 plastic posts with compostable pots and will continue to investigate other options that benefit our environement with no additional cost to our customers.
One of primarily goals is to be recognized as a Green Grower. |
